HARP – HAITIAN AERIAL REFORESTATION PROJECT

Many say that Haiti’s ecology is past the point-of-no-return. Whether or not this is true, should have no bearing upon our actions. We must do whatever is possible, to save what is left.

Haiti now has less than one percent tree cover. If you fly over Haiti, after a rain storm, you will the  Nation’s life blood raining into the oceans as brown clouds stain the water.

Eventually  there will be no stain at all.

Hand-planting is better than nothing, but  cannot keep up with the challenge.

HARP – The Haitian Aerial Reforestation Project will provide one solution as tons of seeds are scattered by aircraft. We will seed the countryside immediately before the two rainy seasons.

Seed will be encapsulated in absorbent material, impregnated with anti-bug/animal chemicals and fertilizer. Vegetable seeds can also be added. A few days, before the drop, seeds will be moistened to start germination.

We expect germination rates in excess of 80%.

The aircraft can also be used to spread fertilizer, other seeds, such as rice and alfalfa, OR SPRAY FOR MOSQUITOS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA, DENGUE AND THE NEW ZIKA THREAT.

When Lynn Garrison originally conceived this concept, California Polytech – CAL POLY – San Luis Obispo, California,  one of the world’s leading agriculture schools, offered to coordinate the project as a world showcase. The school was also offering a few Masters slots in their graduate programs, for Haitian students. I may be able to revive the university’s interest.

Garrison has  many years experience in aviation and could  coordinate the operation.

This type of project will capture international attention. If the   government commits to this concept, funding will appear.
